Automated Sex Identification of Yellow Mealworm (Tenebrio molitor ) at Pupal and Adult Stages

As part of sex identification study, we created an image dataset for the sex identification of Tenebrio molitor at pupa and adult stages. The dataset contains 1,675 and 1,085 annotated images of individual pupae and adult beetles, respectively. Pupae were imaged in controlled orientations (on their back and side) using a custom grid, and in a high-throughput setting using a custom-designed roller. Adult beetles were imaged from a ventral view using a transparent bridge. All individuals were manually sexed to establish ground-truth labels (male/female). The dataset includes pre-processed, segmented images, making it suitable for training and evaluating computer vision models.
