Arthrobacter aurescens Strain TC1 . The TC1 strain was isolated from a South Dakota spill site soil that contained high concentrations (up to 29,000 microg/ml) of atrazine, as described by Strong et al. (Appl. Environ. Microbiol., 2002, 68:5973-5980). This strain is capable of using atrazine as the sole source of nitrogen, carbon, and energy. It is able to metabolize 23 diverse s-triazine ring compounds, which are commonly found in major sources of environmental contamination such as pesticides, plastics, and dyes.
