Dataset contains fluorescence spectra, fluorescence intensity timetraces and confocal microscopy image sets that are used in the submited manuscript.The manuscript reports on a proposed drug delivery system allowing release of a drug from lipophilic polymer in response to ion-selective interactions with trigger ions present in solution. A fluorescent cationic dye -methylene blue; is used as a model drug, which enables monitoring of drug release. Spontaneous and stoichiometric incorporation of trigger ions driven by preferential binding to uncharged ionophore results in charged drug ions (methylene blue cation) release to preserve electroneutrality. Kinetics of trigger ion incorporation/fluorescent model drug release is monitored for ion-selective membrane prepared in a form of solid film or electrospun fiber mat against primary ion and interferents.
