2014年～2023年 日本で働く外国人労働者の数

日本で働く外国人労働者の数は、2023年10月時点でおよそ200万人に達したことが分かりました。外国人労働者の数が200万人の大台に至ったのは、史上初です。
日本における外国人労働者
日本で働く外国人労働者の数は、ここ10年で大幅に増加しました。都道府県別では、東京都で働く外国人労働者が最も多く、全体の4分の1以上におよびます。産業別にみると、「製造業」で最も多くの外国人労働者が活躍しています。地域別ではアジアからの労働者が最大の割合を占めており、なかでもベトナムの労働者は全体の約25パーセントに相当します。
人口減少と深刻な人手不足
日本の外国人労働者数は、10年前まで100万人を下回っており、日本の総人口（約1億2,700万人）の1パーセントにも満たない状況でした。しかし、高齢化や労働力の減少にともない、一部の産業では人手不足が深刻化しています。一方で、外国人労働者を必要とする事業者は増えており、政府は対策として、外国人労働者の受け入れ体制の見直しを発表しました。新しい制度では、人手不足の分野で一定の技能をもつ外国人労働者を受け入れる在留資格「特定技能」について、受け入れ枠と対象分野が拡大され、課題の多かった「外国人技能実習制度」が廃止されました。

In terms of industry, the largest number of foreign workers are active in the manufacturing sector. Regionally, workers from Asia make up the largest proportion, with Vietnamese workers accounting for approximately 25 percent of the total. The number of foreign workers in Japan was below 1 million until a decade ago, representing less than 1 percent of Japan's total population (about 127 million). However, with the aging population and the decline in the labor force, labor shortages have become severe in some industries. Meanwhile, the number of businesses requiring foreign workers has been increasing, and the government has announced measures to review the system of accepting foreign workers. Under the new system, the quota and target sectors for the 'Specialized Skilled' visa, which allows foreign workers with certain skills to enter, have been expanded, and the 'Foreign Trainee System', which was problematic, has been abolished.
