We could identify the presence of a novel atypical BTV serotype ‘36’ in Swiss goat flocks. The diagnostic investigations involved also the RT-qPCR of blood for BTV-genome. After successful detection of BTV genome, we successfully propagated BTV-36-CH2019 in cell culture, developed a specific RT-qPCR targeting segment 2 and generated the full genome by Illumina next generation sequencing.
