Streptococcus salivarius 24SMBc is an oral probiotic with antimicrobial activity against the otopathogens Streptococcus pyogenes and Streptococcus pneumoniae. to health. In the present study, we determine the genomic characterization of S. salivarius 24 SMBc to obtain new insights into its antimicrobial effects, as well as to evaluate the coaggregation ability and anti-adhesion effects on HEp-2 cells against S. pneumoniae and S. pyogenes strains. Our findings further validate the multifactorial probiotic activity of 24SMBc, supported by genomic annotation and antimicrobial activity against pathogenic streptococci, and encourage its application in URTIs for its beneficial effects in local bacteriotherapy.
