Metagenomics analysis (16S rDNA sequencing) of the saliva microbiome from control individuals and OSCC patients.

We have investigated the ability of metagenomic and metaproteomic saliva profiles in distinguishing Control, OSCC patients with resection of the tumor lesion (L0) and without resection (L1), respectively. The results show that there are significant distinct taxonomies and functional changes in L1 patients compared to C and L0, suggesting compositional modulation of the oral microbiome. Metagenomics results also demonstrated that poor overall patient survival is associated to higher relative abundance of distinct taxonomies.
