VPRS 1654 Outward Letter Book and Minute Book, District Surveyor, Bairnsdale and Omeo

This series consists in Unit 1 and a small portion of Unit 2 of transcripts of correspondence sent by the District Surveyor located at Bairnsdale and later at Omeo. Correspondence was addressed to both officials of the Department of Crown lands and Survey (VA 538) in Melbourne and to local correspondents such as the District Surveyor and the Receiver of Revenue at Sale.Matters dealt with included survey reports, reports regarding land sales, schedules of lands to be available for selection, applications for licences to occupy and leases, appointment of contract surveyors and matters regarding actions by the Crown Lands Bailiff.In Unit 2, partial transcripts or summaries of inwards correspondence are written followed by the District Surveyor's Minute which was the response he wrote on the piece of correspondence before returning it to the original author. Similar matters, with more responses to straightforward local inquiries, are dealt with as in the more formal outward correspondence.
