VPRS 809 Return Of Pastoral Rents Received

Landowners rented land from the Crown for pastoral purposes. Lists were published in the Government Gazette tabulating the names of runs and occupiers and the annual rent which was owed. This series contains returns (including nil returns) forwarded to the Receiver and Paymaster of the Department of Crown Lands and Survey in Melbourne showing payments received at local land offices for the stated period.All returns have the date, the name of the Land Office, the name of the run, the name of the occupier and the amount of payment. Later returns, completed on standard pro forma have the name of the district in which the run was situated. This became relevant for rents paid in Melbourne for runs in other parts of Victoria. Some returns appear to have used the list published in the Government Gazette with the payments made at that office crossed off and the list signed by the local official.
