Administrative Metropolitan Planning Area

After the 2020 Census, the core area of the Mat-Su Borough was designated an “Urbanized Area” thus triggering the need to establish a Metropolitan Planning Area (MPA) to be governed by a newly established Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO). The Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is a transportation decision-making and planning body with representatives of local, state & federal government and transportation authorities. It is mandated by the federal government for urban areas with a population greater than 50,000. The MPA boundary encompasses the new Urbanized Area and the contiguous area that is expected to become urbanized within a 20-year forecast period.2020年人口普查结束后，马塔努斯卡-苏西纳自治市镇（Mat-Su Borough）的核心区域被认定为“城市化区域（Urbanized Area）”，由此催生了设立都市区规划区域（MPA）的需求，该区域将由新成立的大都会规划组织（MPO）负责治理。大都会规划组织（MPO）是兼具交通决策与规划职能的机构，其成员涵盖地方、州级与联邦政府部门及交通管理机构代表。美国联邦政府规定，人口规模超过5万的城市区域必须设立此类组织。都市区规划区域的边界覆盖本次划定的城市化区域，以及在20年预测周期内预计将实现城市化的毗邻区域。
