A physical look at musical theory

Abstract We present a discussion of several physical concepts present in the context of musical theory. We deal with important physical phenomena in the production and combination of musical sounds. From the elements of both musical language and physical language, we show relationships between the two forms of representing musical sound phenomena. We draw parallels between the ways of representing the various characteristics of sound and their rhythmic, melodic and harmonic combinations.
