As part of my thesis I analysed the social status and gender of issuers of charters written in five Scandinavian towns (Lund, Lödöse, Skara, Sigtuna and Uppsala) during the period 1076-1550, to see whether it was possible to discern when secular persons outside the elite started issuing charters and other documents to a greater extent.
