Database of Socioeconomic Conditions and Household Food Security (ELCSA), Coscomatepec, Veracruz, Mexico (2025)

This dataset compiles socioeconomic conditions and household food security indicators from rural communities in Coscomatepec, Veracruz, Mexico, specifically Itzguatlán del Café and Tetelzingo. Data were collected in 2025 through household surveys using the ELCSA (Latin American and Caribbean Food Security Scale). The dataset aims to support regional studies on socioeconomic vulnerability and food security in rural contexts. The main instrument used to measure food security was the Latin American and Caribbean Food Security Scale (ELCSA), complemented with custom-designed variables to evaluate multiple household dimensions: Demographic Dimension: Characteristics of the household head (age, gender, marital status, ethnicity), household composition, and economic dependents. Labor and Economic Dimension: Employment status, social security affiliation, income range, and proportion of expenses allocated to food. Housing Dimension: Type of housing, construction materials (floor), water source, and overcrowding level. Food Access and Availability Dimension: Perception of healthy eating, frequency of dietary habits, and self-consumption practices (home gardens, fruit trees, poultry/livestock rearing). Government Support: Reception and type of social programs (state or federal). Two files are included: the clean dataset ready for statistical analysis and a data dictionary (Codebook) with the description of each variable.
