资源简介:

Newborn puppies cannot regulate their body temperature well during the first weeks of life and depend on an appropriate warm environment for survival and healthy development. Breeders and veterinarians commonly use heat lamps or electric heating pads, but little information is available about how consistently these methods maintain safe temperatures. This study compared the temperature performance of heat lamps, electric heating pads, and a water-based warming system that automatically controls temperature. Heat lamps produced temperatures that were difficult to measure accurately and varied depending on the surface being measured. Electric heating pads developed uneven heating, localized hot spots, and temperatures that exceeded the recommended range for newborn puppies. In contrast, the water-based warming system maintained a stable and uniform nest temperature throughout testing. These findings show that commonly used warming methods may expose puppies to temperatures that are difficult to monitor or control, while a thermostatically controlled water-based system can provide a more consistent thermal environment. This information may help breeders, veterinarians, and animal caregivers select safer and more effective warming methods for neonatal puppies.
