**Overview**

The Exa MCP Server connects AI assistants to Exa's neural search engine for high-quality web search, code search, and company research. Unlike traditional keyword search, Exa uses embeddings-based retrieval to find semantically relevant results and returns clean, ready-to-use content extracted from web pages — reducing the post-processing agents typically need to do with raw search results.

The advanced search tool (off by default) adds powerful filtering: search by category (`company`, `news`, `people`, `financial report`), restrict to specific domains, filter by publish date, and control result depth (`auto` vs `deep`). Exa also provides pre-built Claude Code skills for common workflows like company research and financial report discovery.

- `web_search_exa` (on by default) — Search the web and get clean, ready-to-use content
- `get_code_context_exa` (on by default) — Find code examples and docs from GitHub, Stack Overflow, and documentation sites
- `crawling_exa` (on by default) — Get full content of a specific webpage from a known URL
- `web_search_advanced_exa` (off by default) — Advanced search with filters for domains, dates, categories, and result depth
