The study describes the viral communities from three high Arctic lakes of Ellesmere Island (Nunavut, Canada). Water was sampled at key depths in the water-column illustrating the diversity of stratified environments in these lakes. The sequences deposited here were obtained from pre-filtered water in order to remove most of the cellular fraction and are therefore enriched in viral particles.
