The goal of this study is to investigate the interactions of a phytoplankton community and its microbiome on a 4-hour timescale to reveal emerging and predictive properties across an algal bloom and bust cycle and their molecular-level controls.Samples of the microbiome from coastal waters were collected every 4 hours between the dates of May 27 to June 18 in 2021 at a depth of 2m in East Sound, WA (Lat: 48.6765, Long: -122.883233). Bacterial fractions were isolated from 1-2 L of 1um pre-filtered water on a 0.22 um (47mm diameter) polyethersulfone filter at 1:00, 5:00, 9:00, 13:00, 17:00, and 21:00 everyday. DNA was extracted using Qiagen DNeasy PowerWater kit following the manufacturer's instructions and sequenced by the Department of Energy (DOE) Joint Genome Institute (JGI) using Illumina technology.
