McElmo style black-on-white, small Chaco style pitcher, Accession 29.1, Catalog #3215. Morris FS 5066. CULTURALLY SENSITIVE: NAGPRA ARTIFACT; ACCESS RESTRICTED. Analyzed by Lori Reed 2004. Temper not visible; area of production unknown. Measurements: 6.5 cm orifice diameter, 15.2 cm height. Image AMNH 29.1/3215 A: closeup of rim showing wear pattern. Recovered from Earl Morris excavation of southeast refuse mound, Burial 103, Aztec West Ruin. The southeast refuse mound Morris described as having “a depth of about 7 feet and composed of sweepings, ashes, animal bones, and sherds.. but generally lacking in architectural debris. There were occasional rock-walled firepits. Sherds in the mound were all of the earlier Chaco complex …burials are extremely rare in all of the refuse heaps.” (Morris 1928:414).
