In this study, microbial communities in iron-rich soil aggregates were investigated after 60 days of Fe(III)-bioreduction treatment on Geobacter sulfureducens-inoculated, non-sterile, water-stable soil aggregates in laboratory scale columns. The treatment was implemented by injecting a continuous flow of acetate-containing artificial groundwater (AGW) solution to stimulate anaerobic Fe(III)-bioreduction in duplicate columns. A third control column received AGW without acetate.
