The benthic harpacticoid copepod Platychelipus littoralis was studied. Individuals were obtained from Paulina polder, westerscheldt estuary and used in a starvation experiment. Copepods were starved for 24h and 48h, after which their guts were dissected and used for 16S amplicon sequencing on miseq platform with bacterial primers 341f-785r. Sediment from the field site was characterized as well. Copepods were placed in sea water, initially filtered sterilized, and the microbiome that was formed after 48h was sequenced as well. This study includes: -Bacterial 16S sequences of the gut microbiome (dissected gut) of the harpacticoid copepod platychelipus littoralis. -Bacterial 16S sequences of field sediment microbiome, the natural habitat of the copepod species -Bacterial 16S sequences of sea water in which the copepods spend 48h hour starvation period.
