Physical parameters in the study of atmosphere/permafrost interaction to describe the annual active layer evolution. Livingston and Deception islands

The goal of this proposal will be developed a physical model of the soil thermal regime in a permafrost terrain and validate with soil temperatures and radiation balance measurements at Livingston and Deception Islands (Antarctica). The model will be designed to be general applicability to the work area and it could be used as a predictive tool of the effect of climate change on soil temperature. The model will be validate with micro-meteorological and soil temperature data from Antarctica, by comparing calculated and measured surface energy fluxes and soil temperature profiles throughout some years.
