A total of 116 tick specimens were systematically collected from farmed red deer (Cervus elaphus) during antler harvesting procedures (April to June 2022) at an intensive breeding facility (>400 individuals) in the Southern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China. To characterize the microbial community structure of deer-associated ticks, whole-genome shotgun sequencing was performed using the Illumina NovaSeq/HiSeq platforms on metagenomic DNA extracted from collected specimens.
