Our output-input dataset was obtained from the Economic Research Service (ERS) of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA). It is a panel dataset that covers 45 years and 16 states, with a total of 720 observations. It contains one output, four conventional inputs, and four environmental variables. The output data is defined as gross production leaving the farm, and it is an index constructed by combining physical quantities of crop production and livestock. The four inputs are capital, land, labor, and materials, and they are all indexes.
