De novo transcriptome assembly of the green alga Ankistrodesmus falcatus

We aimed to create a de novo reference transcriptome of A. falcatus grown in batch culture. This assembly is valuable for researchers who need to parse apart genes that belong to zooplankton versus their algal food resource. A. falcatus is a member of many freshwater communities, so the reference transcriptome will also benefit metatranscriptomic analyses of freshwater phytoplankton diversity. Additionally, this assembly will be useful as a reference transcriptome for any other studies that require such molecular ecology resources.
