The Enigmatic New Polar J132104.04+560957.8

We propose to obtain XMM observations of MASTER OT J1321, a recently identifiedpolar which exhibits strong phasedependent absorption in optical H and Helines. These emissionabsorption reversals coincide with a dramatic, >2 mag risein the optical light curve, and they provide a rare opportunity to study thestructure of the accretion flow as it approaches the accreting white dwarf. Thesystem s magnetic accretion and ^ated masstransfer rate imply an Xraybright source. Our proposed observations would enable us to correlate J1321 sunusual optical behavior with the Xrayemitting accretion region(s) on thewhite dwarf s surface, and constrain the accretion geometry in a way that is notpossible with optical data alone. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
