WNT signaling is critical for dorsal-ventral (DV) patterning of neural tube, the process in which neural plate precursors give rise to specific classes of neurons along the DV axis of embryo. Previous researches have shown that valproic acid (VPA), a pharmacologic agent for seizures and bipolar disorder could activate WNT signal pathway. However, little is known about the impact of VPA on patterning of human neural tube along DV axis. Therefore, the goal of this study was to investigate the impact of VPA on early neural tube formation and subsequent patterning based a patternable human neural tube organoids (hNTOs).
