First whole Genome Sequencing of Zoonotic Babesia divergens in UK Cattle

This study marks the first whole genome sequencing (WGS) of zoonotic Babesia divergens in UK cattle. Using DNA samples obtained from two clinical whole blood samples sourced from southern England, the application of Illumina sequencing and bioinformatics analysis. , two complete genomes were assembled. Comparative genomics revealed a high-quality identical genome highly identical to the existing Babesia divergens genomes available in the public database. The evidence provided marks the first comprehensive genomic study of Babesia divergens in the UK and lay a solid foundation relevant for enhance surveillance, diagnostics, prevention and control of babesiosis in both animals and humans.
