This study found that proline is an effective metabolite capable of entering the pyruvate/TCA cycle through metabolic processes, reversing serum resistance of Klebsiella pneumoniae both in vitro and in vivo. The pyruvate/TCA cycle upregulates the expression of complement-binding proteins and PMF, permitting the formation of MAC (membrane attack complex), which ultimately leads to cell death.
