We applied high-throughput tag sequencing of the V4 region of the 18S rRNA gene to investigate the eukaryotic microbiome within Arctic sea ice. The communities were diverse and included many heterotrophic and mixotrophic species. Here we show that sympagic communities living within drift ice and land-fast ice harbor taxonomically distinct communities. 12 Arctic (Amundsen Gulf and Franklin Bay) drift and land-fast sea ice samples from 2008.
