Small RNAs sequencing of Biomphalaria glabrata

The Biomphalaria glabrata snail is the most important intermediate host in the transmission of Schistosoma mansoni in America and Caribe, one of the main causative agents of schistosomiasis, a disease that affects millions of people worldwide. The interaction between parasite and mollusk is complex and well known. However, the genetic mechanisms that closely explain this interaction are poorly understood. Our group used the high-throughput sequencing technologies and bioinformatics tools to reveal the profiles of small RNAs in the mollusk, which allowed us to predict new insights in their possible participation on the biology of B. glabrata.
