16S rRNA analysis of the small intestine microbiota of 8-week-old C57BL6/N male mice

3-week-old C57BL6/N male mice were exposed to either a low fat diet (10% fat) or a high fat diet (60%). Groups of mice fed each of the diets were also exposed to low doses of penicillin (6.67 mg/L) in their drinking water. After 5 weeks of treatment, mice were humanely euthanized and content located in the distal small intestine was collected and placed on ice. Microbial DNA was then extracted. DNA was sent for 16S rRNA sequencing by University of San Diego Microbiome Core and Seqmatic.
