Ants of Formica rufa group were collected in September 2021 in two districts of Moscow region (Mozhaysky and Odintsovsky districts), Russia. The collected ants (female, workers) were identified using a taxonomic keys and through analysis of the cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI). For shotgun analysis of microbiome a pool of ants (20 individuals) was frozen in liquid nitrogen and mechanically homogenized for the subsequent isolation of DNA using a QIAamp DNA Mini Kit.
