Saccharopolyspora erythraea E3 is an overproducer of erythromycin, which is obtained using mutate-and-screen strategy. The genome of E3 is sequenced in order to conduct comparative genomics analysis with respect to NRRL23338. This is beneficial for investigating the underlying mechanisms by which E3 enhanced the production of erythromycin.
