GROUD was created by synthesizing dense Sentinel-2 observations from 2019 to 2021 and mapping the water-land boundary at the maximum inundation extent for all rivers wider than 30 meters, based on the SWORD and GRIT datasets. The dataset covers a total river length of 7.52 million kilometers. Riverfronts in GROUD were classified using a convolutional neural network trained on 200,000 high-resolution (~2 m) image patches, achieving an overall accuracy of over 93%.
