lactis is a Gram-positive cocci which is Generally regarded as safe.

the bacterium produces acids from lactose fermentation. Such acids are
particularly useful for curdling milk to produce cheese. This work sought to
provide fundamental genomic information of L. lactis strain A12 through
parsing its annotated genome sequence from Genbank. Comprising gene name, gene
function, and gene sequence, the resource should find use in a variety of
biotechnology workflow seeking to improve the functional capabilities of this
industrial microbe as well as expanding its biotechnology applications.
