COEP Replication Package for "Budding Enrollment: The Impact of Cannabis Policy on US Colleges and Universities"

This project provides the complete replication package for “Budding Enrollment: The Impact of Cannabis Policy on U.S. Colleges and Universities.” The study examines how the legalization of retail recreational marijuana affects freshman enrollment patterns and STEM major selection at U.S. colleges and universities. Using variation in the timing of recreational marijuana sales across states from 2010–2019, the analysis estimates dynamic treatment effects via two-way fixed effects and Sun & Abraham interaction-weighted difference-in-differences models.The replication package contains all scripts necessary to download publicly available IPEDS data, construct the analysis dataset, estimate the models, conduct robustness checks, and generate the figures and LaTeX tables reported in the manuscript. The master script (“ALL.R”) reproduces the full workflow from raw data to final output. The project also includes a renv.lock file to document the exact computational environment used in the analysis, ensuring full reproducibility of package versions and software dependencies.All underlying data are publicly available from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), maintained by the National Center for Education Statistics, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics. No confidential or proprietary data are included in this archive.
