Dynamic regulation of HIF-1 signaling in the rhesus monkey heart after ischemic injury

Hypoxia inducible factor-1 (HIF-1) plays a key role in modulating postinfarction healing after myocardial ischemic injury by regulating the transcription of hundreds of genes involved in multiple processes of cardiac remodeling. However, dynamic changes in the expression of HIF-1 target genes in the heart following myocardial ischemia have not been well characterized. The present study employed a rhesus monkey model of MI induced by left anterior descending (LAD) artery ligation to examine the expression pattern of known HIF-1 target genes in the ischemic heart at 1, 7, and 28 days after injury.
