Mitogenomes and nuclear ribosomal transcription units of proteocephalidean tapeworms (Onchoproteocephalidea I) via genome skimming

In this study, we subjected vouchered specimens of proteocephalid tapeworms (Onchoproteocephalidea I) from the Natural History Museum, Geneva (MHNG-PLAT), and the Institute of Parasitology, Czech Academy of Sciences, Ceske Budejovice (IPCAS), to high-throughput genome skimming. We generated complete or partial mitochondrial genomes and nuclear ribosomal transcription units from 88 specimens, representing 78 species in 43 genera worldwide, including parasites of fishes, snakes, monitor lizards (Varanidae), and a single mammal (opossum). These newly generated sequences provide a foundation for comprehensive phylogenetic and comparative studies of proteocephalid evolution.
