In recent years, with the accelerating pace of urbanization, the issue of difficult urban parking has grown increasingly prominent, becoming a major challenge plaguing residents' travel and urban traffic management. By the end of 2022, the total number of parking spaces in China reached only 152 million, while the demand for parking spaces stood at 314 million, leaving a parking gap of 162 million. The parking difficulty not only undermines residents' travel efficiency but also exacerbates traffic congestion; statistics show that approximately 30% of traffic congestion is caused by parking-related issues. Furthermore, 48% of vehicles daily queue for parking spots in parking lots, wasting substantial time resources and further intensifying the parking dilemma. Therefore, optimizing the allocation of urban parking resources and improving the utilization rate of parking spaces is of critical significance for alleviating traffic congestion and enhancing the efficiency of urban traffic management. As one of the important means to address the parking difficulty, the spatio-temporal dynamic changes of traffic flow and parking space utilization at urban temporary parking lots hold great importance for optimizing urban traffic management.
