Mapping the bioprospection potential of the Tibetan Plateau microbiome

Despite the recognized importance of high-mountain ecosystems for microbial diversity and evolution, these environments remain critically understudied in global microbiome research. To address this gap, we performed a comprehensive metagenomic survey of six representative ecosystems across the Tibetan Plateau, the highest and most extensive alpine region on Earth. Leveraging 55.05 Tb of sequencing data generated from 1,698 environmental samples collected at 868 sites, we reconstructed 51,921 metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs), which were subsequently grouped into 17,920 species-level genome bins (SGBs).
