Clouds and the Earth's Radiant Energy System

Climate is controlled by the amount of sunlight absorbed by Earth and the amount of infrared energy emitted to space. These quantities–together with their difference–define Earth’s radiation budget (ERB). The Clouds and the Earth’s Radiant Energy System (CERES) project provides satellite-based observations of ERB and clouds. It uses measurements from CERES instruments flying on several satellites along with data from many other instruments to produce a comprehensive set of ERB data products for climate, weather and applied science research.地球气候受其吸收的太阳辐射总量与向太空发射的红外能量总量共同调控。上述两类辐射量及其差值共同定义了地球辐射收支（Earth’s Radiation Budget，ERB）。云与地球辐射能系统（Clouds and the Earth’s Radiant Energy System，CERES）项目可提供基于卫星的地球辐射收支与云系观测数据。该项目整合多颗卫星搭载的CERES仪器的测量结果，以及其他多款仪器的观测资料，可为气候、气象及应用科学研究提供一套完整的地球辐射收支数据集产品。
