VPRS 14487 Estates Register, Valuation of Improvements

This series gives the value of improvements, particularly houses, outbuildings and fencing, made for settlers on specific estates.Estates are listed in alphabetical order of their name. For each estate, listings are given showing district number, the name of the applicant, the parish, the allotment number, the estate name and in the remarks column a list of the improvements made and the cost of each with the total for each estate given. Further details relating to the value of improvements may be found in VPRS 14477 Register of the Valuation of Improvements.Section 9 of the Closer Settlement Act 1906 (Section 96 Closer Settlement Act 1915) had given the Board the power to erect dwelling houses and outbuildings and to make improvements on allotments. The value was fixed by the legislation, with the principal and interest (of five per cent per annum) to be repaid over twenty years.
