Simulation of mechanical ventilated patients to calculate ventilator-free days.

This annotated R code presents a function designed to generate a simulated dataset. The primary objective of this dataset is to replicate a trial involving a control group and an experimental group comprised of initially ventilated patients, with the intention of calculating ventilator-free days (VFDs). Two key variables are simulated: survival and extubation.

The function was used to create multiple datasets by varying survival rates and durations of ventilation. Subsequently, various statistical models were evaluated for statistical power and type I error rates to determine the most effective method for analyzing VFDs.
