The following data collection comprises several experiments that use confocal fluorescence microscopy and smRNA FISH to investigate
the transcriptional mechanism of olfactory receptors (ORs) expression in Ooceraea biroi antennae. Experiments were carried out in
whole antennae in which olfactory sensory neurons were stained with custom RNA FISH probes. These data demonstrate that
bidirectional transcription occurs leading to 1) inhibition of transcription of upstream ORs in a tandem array and 2) non-canonical
readthrough producing non-translated transcripts from ORs downstream of the initiation site.
