In the figure of the prefica (wailer or mourner) from Grecìa Salentina and in her songs the normativity of the language is confirmed and maintained as an order of the community. The persistence of Griko language in the ritual songs of death performs a function of conservation and return of collective values from the point of view of a mother's symbolic order.
