Serratia liquefaciens Kuo1-1 isolated from ant lion was highly virulent to insects including the silkworm, Bombyx mori, and American cockroach, Periplaneta americana (Egami et al., 2009). For molecular biological experiment, a spontaneous nalidixic acid-resistant mutant FK01 was created from Kuo1-1. S. liquefaciens FK01 maintained virulence to insects. Unfortunately pathogenicity mechanisms of S. liquefaciens against insects remain unclear. Sequencing of S. liquefaciens FK01 genome will lead to understanding the pathogenicity mechanisms.
