Bacterial and fungal diversity of indoor exhibitory rooms of Wawel Royal Castle in Krakow, Poland

The main aims of the study were to (i) determine the diversity of airborne bacteria and fungi of Wawel Royal Castle; (ii) evaluate differences between the results obtained with the application of the culture-dependent and culture-independent methodologies used for studying air microbiome; (iii) compare native microbial communities suspended in the air and deposited onto the historical surfaces; (iv) test the stability of microbial community within summer season characterized by high tourist traffic.
