Finnish Experiences of Disability and Aging 2021

The dataset consists of self-administered written texts written by elderly people who have a disability. The writing invitation was aimed at individuals who are ageing with a disability and individuals with age-related disabilities or handicaps. In the writing guidelines, the participants were presented with questions that they could use to help guide their writing. The questions prompted the participants to describe their experience of ageing with a disability or the experience of living with age-related disabilities or handicaps. The participants were asked whether they had received adequate support and assistance to manage the challenges posed by their disability, and whether they felt that they were treated differently now that they were elderly or as a result of developing age-related disabilities. Additionally, the participants could write about how disability had impacted their identity, everyday life or hobbies. Background information included the participant's gender, age group, the disability the participant had, and whether the participant's municipality of residence had deemed them eligible for services for the disabled or the elderly. The dataset is only available in Finnish.
