Fish eDNA metabarcoding data from Minnesota streams and Iowa oxbows, USA

Broadly, the study aimed to determine whether we could detect the environmental DNA of the endangered Topeka shiner (Notropis topeka) and nest associate species (Lepomis spp., Pimephales promelas) using metabarcoding for environmental biomonitoring. The main study specifically aimed to compare metabarcoding read count detection data with species-specific qPCR detection data to determine the optimal molecular method for monitoring the Topeka shiner in the United States.
