资源简介:
Stroke survivors undergoing inpatient rehabilitation are sedentary. Digital technologies offer the potential to enhance self-directed patient activity, but it’s not known if this approach is acceptable to patients. We explored perspectives of stroke survivors on existing independent practice resources and their attitudes towards a video prototype. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with inpatients undergoing rehabilitation after stroke at a metropolitan hospital in Australia. Collected data was analysed thematically using an interpretive description framework. Interviews with nine stroke survivors (6 males and 3 females, age range 44–82) identified four key themes: (1) Role of the clinician in setting up an independent practice program, (2) Factors that motivate survivors of stroke (3) Drivers for patient preferences and (4) Key accessibility needs for survivors of stroke. While paper-based programs were seen as useful memory aids, they were not always clear or motivating. In contrast, video prototypes were appreciated for their clarity, ability to demonstrate technique and motivational appeal. Findings suggest that stroke survivors want engaging resources to support rehabilitation outside of therapy. This study highlights the need for resources that are better aligned with patient preferences, combining motivating videos with accessible paper formats, to enhance activity levels on rehabilitation wards.IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATION: Resources to support independent practice activity, for patients undergoing inpatient rehabilitation after stroke, need to have clear instructions, large images, be motivating and relatable to the individual. Patients recovering from stroke rely on visual prompts when they are taught an activity and, therefore, need resources which remind them of technique when they complete this activity independently. Independent practice resources will only be used by patients if the environment is well set up and if patients can reach their instructions. Family members play a pivotal role in supporting independent practice activity, so involving them early is recommended. Stroke survivors want to have a choice of the type of independent practice resource they are offered.
